Visitors will spend 21% more in Puerto Rico this year than in 2021

Travelling to Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico – Travellers arriving on the island on domestic flights will not have to submit a traveller’s declaration, a vaccination record, or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test.

Similarly, industries that are part of the visitor’s economy will operate without capacity limitations, increasing the sector’s ability to serve tourists adequately.

In 2021, Puerto Rico experienced a record year in income from accommodations, collection by the “room tax”, and the arrival of passengers at the Luis Muñoz Marín airport, among other industry metrics. This allowed much of the local tourism industry to follow a path to recovery, overcoming the pandemic-related challenges.

As of December 2021, the leisure and hospitality services industry employed about 80,000 people in Puerto Rico, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This number of jobs is similar to pre-pandemic periods.
