Egypt requested citizens travelling to Kuwait to postpone travel plan following an entry ban for foreigners

Egypt has urged citizens touring to Kuwait to postpone the journey after the Gulf nation decided to suspend entry for non-Kuwaitis for 2 weeks, effective as of February 7.

In an official statement on Thursday, Nabila Makram, emigration, and expat affairs minister, requested residents to delay journey plans in the present time amid a number of precautionary measures taken by Kuwait aiming to stem the outbreak of the pandemic and the spread of new variants.

Makram asked that residents temporarily in transit in Gulf nations en route to Kuwait return to Egypt, particularly if they won’t be able to travel to Kuwait before the airport’s closure and they can’t bear the cost of accommodation in their present transit nation

She said providing options to cover accommodation for Egyptians residing in Gulf transit nations, together with the UAE and Oman, wouldn’t be facilitated.

Several businessmen, charity group Misr ElKheir, and Banque Misr have previously helped in bearing huge expenses to cover stranded Egyptians within the UAE and Oman, the minister stated, adding that such aid could be difficult to provide now due to the extended period of border closures and visa difficulties in transit nations.

On Wednesday, Kuwaiti authorities announced a two-week ban on foreigners arriving at the nation starting Sunday.

Authorities have also ordered most businesses to shut down from 8 pm to 5 am beginning Sunday for one month.

Health clubs, spas, and gyms are included within the closure order, with the nation also banning celebrations for its upcoming 25 February National Day.

Kuwait noticed infections drop in late November; however, cases started to spike at the first of the new yr. It has reported over 166,000 cases, with 950 deaths since the outbreak.
