Two of the Middle East’s largest airways Emirates and Etihad stated that they would be among the first to test an application that allows pre-travel verification of covid-19 tests and vaccinations.
The United Arab Emirates in partnership with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to be among “the first airways” worldwide to trial the IATA Travel Pass, each airline said
In a press release, the IATA said the mobile app would allow passengers to create a ‘digital passport’ to confirm their pre-travel test and share the test and vaccination certificates with authorities and airways to facilitate travel,
Emirates stated the initial implementation of the IATA Travel Pass in Dubai, the place the company is based and which has largely reopened its borders to foreign travelers & was anticipated to start in April.
“Customers traveling with Emirates from Dubai will be capable of sharing their COVID-19 test immediately with the airline even before reaching the airport via the app”, mentioned in a press release.
Etihad, based within the capital, stated the initiative would “initially be offered to Etihad’s visitors on chosen flights from Abu Dhabi within the first quarter of 2021 if beneficial, It would be extended to different locations on the Etihad community,”
On Monday Emirates launched a vaccination program for its UAE-based staff.
