The Republic of Cyprus has lifted its travel ban on 56 countries, most of that is a part of the European Union, but also together with Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, UAE, and Saudi Arabia, the government announced in a statement on Monday.
The updated protocols set up a new categorization system in accordance with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control standards (ECDC), dividing countries by green, orange, red, and grey.Â
According to this standard, Israel is currently marked as gray, which means a go-to to Cyprus from Israel would require a Cyprus flight go, a PCR test from as much as 72 hours before arrival, a compulsory 14-day self-isolation interval, and a random (government-paid) coronavirus test, taken upon arrival.Â
The new protocols will come into impact on January 15, as a part of the transitional period, and by March 15, all 56 countries in category gray will be moved to both green, orange, or red following ECDC evaluations. Cyprus is an extremely visited destination for a lot of Israelis, given its short distance and its reputation with these seeking to get married without receiving approval from Israel’s Rabbinate, the place both gay and mixed-faith weddings can legally happen.
