Govt. plan to build up Kargil as an adventure tourism destination: Tourism minister

Indian Govt. is set to build up Ladakh’s Kargil district as an adventure tourism destination with all international level infrastructure, Tourism minister Prahlad Singh Patel stated on Sunday.

While Interacting with reporters during his trip to Linkipal Ski Slopes, he also informed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has planned to promote adventure tourism in areas that have a lot of potentials however have remained unexplored because of various causes.

“Kargil is one among them. The government of India is fully committed to creating international level tourism infrastructure within the district so that a feasible environment is created for tourism and employment alternatives, after Ladakh turned into a Union Territory in 2019, he together with a high-level group from the Ministry of Tourism and Culture visited Ladakh to hold conferences with the hill councils of Kargil and Leh to debate and draw up plans for the event of the tourism sector.” the tourism minister mentioned.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs has opened over 100 peaks for mountaineering within the nation for domestic as well as international travelers to promote adventure tourism, which also consists of a number of peaks of Kargil district,” he mentioned.

Patel also thanked the chief executive councilor of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, for his assurance to offer land for developing ski slopes at Kargil and stated the tourism ministry will present adequate funds for the development of this area, the minister was also briefed by experts on the feasibility of opening a skiing and mountaineering institute and creating facilities like ski-lifts at Linkipal Ski Slopes.

During the minister’s trip, local skiers put forth their demands for installation of cable cars, construction of a resting room, providing snow grooming machines and snow ski equipment.

Patel also visited the Bodhisattva Maitreya statue and the Shargole Cave Monastery and also interacted with the locals and the folk artists.
