Germany has added a number of new areas to its list of high-risk areas, after the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported a rise within the cases of COVID-19 in these areas, within the recent days earlier than the publication of the new record.
In accordance with RKI, which is the German federal government agency and research institute responsible for disease control and prevention, the following areas are added to the list of high-risk areas.
- All of Estonia
- South-East region of Eire
- The province of Innlandet in Norway
- All of Namibia
“The Northern Ostrobothnia area in Finland is no longer a risk area,” the RKI also notes.
The new changes mean that travelers reaching Germany from these areas which were added to the list will now have to quarantine upon arrival.
“For these coming into the Federal Republic of Germany, who’s stayed in a risk area at any time inside the final ten days before entry, there’s an obligation to segregate in accordance with the respective quarantine laws of the accountable federal states,” the Institute explains.
Germany obligates all travelers coming from high-risk areas to self-isolate for an interval of ten days after entering the nation. Those who want to shorten quarantine can do so by testing for COVID-19, however, not earlier than after 5 days of self-isolation.
At the same time, travelers are obliged to register digitally before arriving in Germany, via the Digital Entry Registration (DEA).
The list of high-risk nations is updated each week by the Robert Koch Institute, based on joint analysis and the decision by the Federal Ministry of Health, the Overseas Office, and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs.
Last week, the RKI had added the Pärnu area in Estonia to the list, whereas this week, entire Estonia is categorized as extremely risky.
The Varsinais-Suomi area in Fin land, all of Spain together with the Canary Islands, as well as the British overseas territory of the Bermuda Islands have been added to the list last week too. However, the West Greece area in Greece was far away from the same.
