STOCKHOLM: Sweden mentioned on Sunday, it would temporarily cease all travelers coming in from Norway from midnight, in a bid to stop the spread of the new coronavirus variant first noticed in Britain, Interior minister Mikael Damberg informed a news conference the entry ban, with exemptions for commuters and other groups, would last till Feb 14.
The decision came a day after Norway imposed some of its hardest lockdown measures yet in a number of municipalities after an outbreak of the new coronavirus variant.
Damberg mentioned the Swedish measures would cease Norwegian shoppers heading over the lengthy shared border to escape these tougher restrictions.
Sweden was also extending a current ban on entries from Britain and Denmark, he mentioned.
Sweden’s foreign ministry posted a message on its website on Sunday advising against unnecessary travel to Norway.
