2,400-plus flights canceled due to winter storm, Travel Waivers issued for East Coast regions

US winter storm causes thousands of flights cancellation

Airlines have issued a fresh set of travel waivers for a wide portion of the East Coast Wednesday as airports in Texas continue to dig out after record ice and snow.

The National Weather Service stated Wednesday that over 100 million Americans are under winter storm warnings, watches, or advisories as another round of “heavy snow and treacherous ice accumulations” approached the East Coast.

As of 2:30 p.m. EST, FlightAware counted more than 2,400 canceled flights and more than 900 delays for Wednesday. Dallas Fort Worth International Airport still led the world in canceled flights with American Airlines heading up the checklist of carriers with the most canceled flights.

Meanwhile, Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport, which had closed its airfield due to the storm, reopened Tuesday night but cautioned passengers to check with their carriers before coming to the airport. Austin Bergstrom International Airport stated it would reopen at 1 p.m. CST Wednesday after being closed Tuesday.
