No traveler might be allowed to fly in or out of the nation without a Covid-19-negative certificate, the government has directed.
The directive has been shared with main embassies within the nation and different stakeholders to curb the virus. As an example, the US Embassy has issued an alert to its nationals in regards to the new directive.
As of January 11, 2021, outgoing travelers must obtain a Covid-19-negative certificate in accordance with the Trusted Traveller (TT) Initiative (www.africacdc.org/trusted-travel) and the PanaBios system (www.panabios.org), travelers who intend to depart Kenya should first go to an authorized laboratory (according to the government of Kenya, all PCR Covid-19 testing laboratories are now a part of the TT system), acquire a PCR Covid-19 test with a negative result, and be issued a TT code that might be verified by airlines and immigration authorities, the alert, dated January 9, stated.
It added the traveler will obtain a text message from PanaBios as well as an email from the testing laboratory and/or admin@panabios.org with a link to guide on how to generate a journey code at trustedtravel.panabios.org.
If all come good then a travel code is issued to the traveler online. All Covid-19 testing laboratories, beginning on Saturday, January 9, 2021, should use the TT course when issuing Covid-19 testing certificates, the move is a part of efforts by the government to stamp out fake certificates that affect the nation’s credibility.
A traveler first visits only an authorized lab to take a PCR Covid-19 test. In Kenya, all authorized PCR Covid-19 testing laboratories have been linked to the trusted travel initiative.
Embassies have been advised all passengers arriving in and transiting Kenya should have a PCR Covid-19-negative certificate for a check conducted 96 hours before the journey that has been digitally verified by means of the Trusted Travel (TT) Initiative.
And as a part of efforts to implement the brand new directive, all airline operators have been given a list of 44 laboratories that have been permitted to test for Covid-19 and subject certificates and TT code.
Port Health officer in cost Benjamin Murkomen issued a memo dated January 11, saying an individual intending to travel outdoors Kenya is predicted to take the test on the laboratories.
“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to tell you that any traveler with PCR results coming from non-approved lab shall not be allowed to journey through JKIA,” the memo stated.
The labs might be reviewed from time to time by the Ministry of Health, the official added. The record showed the labs are spread regionally, mostly in the old provinces.
