Potchefstroom – Travelling and gatherings are the leading drivers of Covid-19 in Eswatini, Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku mentioned on Friday.

In an announcement imposing the restriction, he mentioned traveling could be restricted and gatherings could be managed through the festive season.

He mentioned no particular person shall be allowed to consume liquor at a gathering, together with a family gathering of more than 20 individuals.

Gatherings weren’t allowed to happen after 8 pm, evening vigils and cross–over occasions or events have been prohibited, and nonimportant traveling between 11 pm and 4 am was prohibited, Masuku mentioned.

All eating places and food outlet operators aren’t allowed to promote or serve liquor to diners after 7 pm and, festive season sports tournaments have been prohibited as a part of curbing the unfold of the novel coronavirus.

“An individual who intends to hold a gathering by way of the laws, shall at least seven days earlier than the meant gathering lodge an application with the ministry of home affairs regional office,” he said.

“The applying shall be within the prescribed form and shall be accompanied by a letter of consent from a chief or chief’s council if the occasion is to be held on Eswatini nation land.”

He mentioned the nation recently recorded a total of 201 new cases.

“About 56 % of those cases have been from the Hhohho area, with a majority of them recorded around Mbabane Metropolis areas. Forty-five percent of positive cases are people who tested after showing symptoms, whereas these coming from gatherings were at 20 %.”

The nation is mourning the death of Prime Minster Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini who died of Covid-19 while receiving treatment in South Africa.
