In October 2022, 856 thousand guests spent 2.1 million tourism nights in commercial accommodation establishments (hotels, boarding houses, camping sites, bungalow complexes, and community hostels). The number of guests rose by 3.2% and that of nights decreased by 0.2% compared to the same period of the previous year. Compared to October 2021, the number of nights spent by domestic guests decreased by 17% and that of nights spent by foreign guests increased by 27%. In January-October 2022, domestic guests spent 20% more tourism nights and foreign guests 132% more tourism nights than in the same period last year.
In October 2022:
The number of domestic tourist arrivals fell by 11% and that of tourism nights by 17% compared to the same month of the previous year. The former was 489 thousand and the latter 1.1 million. 75% of the nights were spent at hotels, where the number of tourism nights was 14% lower than a year earlier. Turnover in boarding houses and community hostels fell by 21% and 22% respectively compared to October last year. The two most popular tourist regions, the Budapest–Central Danube Region and Lake Balaton recorded 21% and 19% of domestic tourism nights respectively.
International tourist arrivals increased by 32% and tourism nights by 27% compared to the same month of the previous year. A total of 367 thousand guests stayed in accommodation establishments for 1.0 million nights. 80% of these nights were spent in hotels, where the number of nights spent increased by 24% compared to October 2021. The most popular tourism region was the Budapest–Central Danube Region, where 61% of international tourism nights were registered.
Total gross sales revenues were HUF 42 billion, 24% higher than the previous year at current prices.
Cardholders paid 28% less, HUF 2.1 billion, with their Széchenyi Recreation Cards in commercial accommodation.
In October 2022:
2,347 commercial accommodation establishments, including 885 hotels and 1,042 boarding houses, were open for part or all of the month.
52% of all tourism nights were spent by domestic guests.
In January-October 2022 compared to the same period of the previous year:
The number of tourism nights spent in commercial accommodation increased by 50% to 23 million. Domestic guests spent 20% more nights in commercial accommodations and foreign guests 132% more (13.2 million and 9.6 million respectively).
Total gross sales revenues of commercial accommodation at current prices increased by 74% to HUF 386 billion.
