Washington: After being closed for six months due to COVID-19, now the Washington Monument is reopening to the public Wednesday (July 14).
Beginning July 14, the monument will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Advance tickets will be required for all visitors. No tickets will be sold on-site. Tickets will only be available on recreation.gov, where there is a non-refundable $1 reservation fee per ticket.
Additionally, face masks will be required for all visitors over age 2, regardless of vaccination status.
“Working closely with the NPS Office of Public Health, the park is using CDC guidance to ensure public areas and workspaces are safe and clean for visitors, employees, partners and volunteers,” according to the National Park Service.
The Washington Monument first closed for the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. It reopened in October and closed again in January.
Only one NPS-administered monument remains closed in the National Mall area: the Belmont-Paul Women’s Equality National Monument, headquarters of the National Woman’s Party for nearly a century. It’s one of numerous NPS sites nationwide still shuttered for COVID-19 precautions.
