Thailand’s biggest Chinese New Year celebrations open in Bangkok’s Chinatown

Bangkok – High-level officials of China and Thailand mark 48 years of Thai-Chinese relations with the official opening ceremony of the Chinatown Chinese New Year 2023 lanterns and decorations at the Chalermphrakiat Gate, Odeon Circle, Yaowarat Road.

Presiding over the ceremony was H.E. Mr. Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, together with H.E. Mr. Yang Xin, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Thailand. Also present were Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and senior officials and key figures from the Thai public and private sectors.

Mr. Phiphat said, “Thailand is one of five countries around the world that celebrate the biggest Chinese New Year 2023 celebrations outside of China. Through these festivities taking place up and down the kingdom, we are reiterating a message that Thailand is fully opening for tourists from around the world.”

This official opening of Thailand’s biggest Chinese New Year celebrations in Bangkok’s Chinatown marks the highlight of the annual nationwide festivities that TAT has been organizing annually in collaboration with long-standing partners, the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand.
