The state is working to attract domestic travelers and is therefore investing in ongoing projects at destinations such as Mamallapuram, and Rameswaram. The decision to upgrade tourist facilities was made at a review meeting that was chaired by the tourism minister of Tamil Nadu, M Mathiventhan.
The work to upgrade Mamallapuram is going to cost INR 441 crore, while Rameswaram is going to cost INR 40 crore. The Tamil Nadu government is also looking closely at the 295 selected sites that are being worked on. The state government is further looking at boating facilities in the state and has assessed the quality of boats, water scooters, and other water sports facilities. Destinations such as Kodaikanal are very popular among tourists for boating activities.
The post-covid recovery plan is to boost tourism and to ensure that the state remains one of the topmost destinations in the country. Tamil Nadu has always been a most sought-after travel destination, with hill stations, and its magical environments.
As international destinations are gearing up, domestic tourism is also looking at growth post covid. Kerala, on the other hand, is planning for 100 percent vaccination in tourist spots, and Karnataka on the other hand is focussing on agri-tourism, and helicopter tours.
