Patna: A Delhi-bound SpiceJet flight on Sunday (Jun 19) was forced to return and make an emergency landing at Patna Airport after there were reports of a fire in the plane’s engine immediately after it took off.
The crew and the Air Traffic Control (ATC) arranged a safe emergency landing of the aircraft at the Patna airport.
All 185 passengers are reportedly safe. Airport sources said that the flight was a Boeing 727.
Later in the day, the Directorate General of civil aviation (DGCA ) issued a statement regarding the incident, revealing the cause of the fire. As per the statement, the flight had to return after it was hit by a bird, after which, one of the engines stopped working mid-air, prompting the flight to return back.
