Spain: The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism last week launched a participatory process with the Spanish tourism sector for the preparation of the Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030, the roadmap that will guide the future of the country’s tourism model after the investments of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain, financed with Next Generation EU funds.
“Two years after the start of the pandemic, tourism is today one of the sectors that are contributing the most to the recovery of the Spanish economy. But we are not only busy recovering our leadership in tourism, but we are also building the foundations of leadership for the coming decades”, said the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, during the meeting of the Spanish Tourism Council (Conestur) that he has chaired at the headquarters of his department.
Conestur is a collegiate, advisory and consultative body attached to the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. It is chaired by the head of the department and its vice president is the Secretary of State for Tourism. It brings together the Ministry with representatives of Autonomous Communities, local entities, business and trade union organizations and professionals of recognized prestige. Its objective is to favour the participation of the different Public Administrations with competencies in the matter and of the businessmen, workers and professionals that affect the tourist activity in the follow-up of the tourist policies in Spain, as well as in the activities of the Tourist Administration. of the State.
In its first face-to-face meeting since the start of the pandemic, Conestur joins the work to prepare the 2030 Sustainable Tourism Strategy, in which the Tourism Sector Conference and other actors such as universities, associations and federations will also be involved. organized working groups.
In this way, the participation in the process of the actors of the entire territory is guaranteed, facilitating that the objectives and instruments identified by the Strategy can be assumed by the different levels of the Administration and the actors of the tourism sector.
