Russian Railways’ accelerator to start work with 21 innovative projects in transport and logistics

Passenger numbers on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 13.9% in January 2022

OJSC Russian Railways and its affiliated company JSC Railway Research Institute (JSC VNIIZhT), in partnership with GenerationS, have summed up the interim results of their joint acceleration programme, which was launched in July this year, and also identified the most promising startups in transport logistics for further participation in the Company’s accelerator.

This year, 21 innovative start-up projects will participate in the corporate acceleration programme of Russian Railways. The authors of the best ideas will have the opportunity to cooperate on the implementation of their developments on the railway network.

Projects which can be singled out include highly efficient technologies for cleaning cars and software and hardware systems that are used to track the movement of cargo, transportation conditions and determine the volume of bulk products etc.

In total, 2021 saw more than 500 applications submitted to the corporate accelerator programme of Russian Railways, with 150 undergoing a detailed examination.

The accelerator was attended not only by Russian but also by foreign startups from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Germany, Israel, Great Britain, Kenya, Pakistan, Turkey, Canada, Thailand, the United States and Estonia.

Most of the teams demonstrated a high degree of readiness: over 70% of the projects that passed the initial examination have already conducted pilot tests or established production and have recorded their first sales. About 30% of the participants have registered foreign and Russian patents.

The goal of the Russian Railways’ corporate accelerator is to find promising technologies that will help improve the Company’s safety and operational efficiency.
