To board these trains, passengers will have to arrive at the station an hour ahead of departure for on-site testing. The testing shall be done by the Red Cross and Italian Civil Protection. At present, wearing face masks is required on all trains in Italy, that are operating at 50 % capacity.
The main train terminal in Rome has now become the nation’s first major railway hub to serve as a vaccination point. According to the local reports, more than 1500 shots are being given per day in three mobile tents, arrange in the piazza right in front of the station.
The train operator has also introduced a healthcare train that can each treat patients on board and transport them to hospitals. The train features three healthcare carriages, having a capacity of seven patients each. These coaches also have care beds for sufferers in urgent want of ventilation.
These measures come a day after Italy went into another lockdown due to a sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, with the more contagious variant.
