Passenger numbers on the network owned by Russian Railways increased by 13.9% in January 2022

Passenger traffic on the Russian Railways network up 1.6% in August 2021

According to the latest figures, the infrastructure of Russian Railways transported 95.4 million passengers in August 2021, 1.6% more than in the same period last year. Suburban traffic numbers fell by 0.7% to 84 million passengers but increased by 23.9% to 11.4 million on long-distance routes.

Passenger turnover in August 2021 amounted to 13.6 billion passenger kilometres, 23.4% more than in 2020. Suburban passenger turnover increased by almost 1.9% and amounted to almost 2.8 billion pass-km and by 30.5% to 10.8 billion pass-km on long-distance routes.

Between January and August 2021, total passenger numbers amounted to 695.5 million, an increase of 26.3% compared to January-August 2020. Suburban passengers totalled 631 million passengers, an increase of 24.9%, while long-distance passenger numbers were up 41.1% to 64.5 million passengers.

Passenger turnover on the Russian Railways’ network since the beginning of 2021 has increased by 38.2% compared to the previous year and amounted to 72.8 billion passenger-kilometres. Suburban passenger turnover in January-August rose to nearly 19.4 billion pass-km, an increase of 21.6%, while long-distance travel passenger turnover was up 45.4% to 53.4 billion pass-km.
