Oman permits Israeli airlines to fly through its airspace

Following the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oman today (Thursday, February 23, 2023) announced today its approval for Israeli airlines to fly through its airspace.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Eli Cohen: “This is a historic decision that will shorten the flying time to Asia, lower costs for Israeli citizens and helps Israeli airlines to be more competitive. I thank the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tarik, and our American friends for their substantial help in the success of the move.”

Oman announced a short while ago that Israeli airlines will be able to pass through its airspace. The announcement came after months of talks between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the authorities in Oman.

The approval given today joins the previous approval given by Saudi Arabia and will shorten flights from Israel to destinations in Asia by more than two hours, thus making Israeli airlines more competitive and significantly reducing ticket prices for Israeli travelers.

FM Cohen: “This is a historic and significant decision for the Israeli economy and for the Israeli traveler. I thank Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the National Security Council, MFA Director-General Ronan Levy and the dedicated MFA personnel who acted on behalf of the citizens of Israel and the Israeli economy. Special thanks to our friend, the Sultan of Oman, and our friends in the United States who supported us throughout the entire process.”
