If you want to do your bit for planet Earth, book a stay at the latest eco-friendly accommodation option in Dublin
The newly opened Wren Urban Nest in the heart of Dublin is on a mission to save the planet while providing residents with ‘luxury without the guilt’.
The new nine-storey offering on St Andrew’s Lane boasts 137 rooms or ‘nests’. The hotel has been constructed using advanced sustainable technologies, eliminating the need for fossil fuels and allowing the venue to use 100% renewable electricity to achieve ‘net zero carbon’ status.
It is the first hotel in Ireland to comply with the World Green Building Council’s definition of ‘net zero carbon’ without having to purchase carbon offsets.
Each room includes green technologies that ensure a commitment to the environment and advances such as Respa mattresses and remote controlled blackout blinds that assure a silent night’s sleep.
The rooms have rain showers, a pillow menu on request, a 43-inch flat screen TV with Chromecast and high-speed Wi-Fi. All the hotel toiletries are sourced from local suppliers and every room has complimentary water cartons and ethically-sourced bathroom amenities in recycled packaging.
Wren endeavours to not use any single use plastics and provides free chilled drinking water to guests. The hotel’s water demand is set to be approximately 60% lower than that of typical hotel buildings, while the ventilation system captures 81% of rejected heat using a thermal wheel and therefore heats the incoming fresh air for free.
The hotel is an ideal eco-friendly accommodation option for responsible travellers who wish to minimise their carbon footprint. Positioned between Trinity College, the fine shopping precinct of Grafton Street and the cultural and creative hub of Temple Bar, the best that Dublin has to offer is on its doorstep.
Cafés, restaurants, theatres and museums are all nearby, while the city’s top pubs and clubs are all only a short hop away from the sanctuary of a cosy urban nest.
In a bid to create an overall ethical and sustainable hotel experience, Wren also sources all its kitchen ingredients from local suppliers.
Led by chef Ronato Palmer from Johannesburg, the kitchen has no reliance on gas for cooking. Chefs are committed to responsible food sourcing and actively use ‘ugly fruit and wonky veg’. The entire wine list is also organic, with an emphasis on smaller distilleries for the spirits menu.
Tracey Moran, Director of Moran Hospitality and Hotel Operator, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to have Wren Urban Nest open. We are passionate about the environment and believe in taking little steps towards a better planet.”
She added: “Our guests can expect bags of personality and a bespoke Dublin city experience that does not compromise on luxury while still doing their bit.”
