Suspension of commercial flights from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini as from Monday 29th November till Friday 31st December 2021
Inbound flights from South Africa cancelled from 28 November 2021
The Republic of Mauritius announced on Friday (Nov. 26) to suspend all flights from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini with effect from Monday 29th November till Friday 31st December 2021. All passengers landing in Mauritius from these countries over the coming weekend will be subject to a mandatory PCR test which will be performed at the airport. In addition, they will have to undergo PCR tests on day 7 and day 14 which will be conducted by MOHW. This decision is deemed necessary to protect the safety and security of our citizens, residents and visitors.
Arvind Bundhun, Director of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, said: “It is with regret that the Government of Mauritius has taken the decision that all flights from these countries will be suspended from next Monday, 29th November till Friday 31st December 2021.
In light of the latest available scientific data about the further spread of the new Covid variant, Omicron, first identified in South Africa, the Republic of Mauritius has implemented additional arrival restrictions on flights arriving from South Africa to Mauritius, with immediate effect.
Air Mauritius will be providing one outbound flight from Mauritius to Johannesburg on Sunday 28th November. Restrictions on inbound flights from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Namibia and Eswatini are in place until further notice. Cargo flights will continue until further notice.
Additional emergency repatriation flights for Mauritian citizens, Resident and Occupational Permit Holders will be organised through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
