Manipur finally marks its presence on the Indian Railway Map after the first trial run of a passenger train from Silchar to Vaingaichunpao railway station in Manipur has been successfully conducted on Friday (July 2).
This is a major boost as connectivity to the northeast region is concerned, as per the reports, the train covered a distance of 11 km between the two stations, with railway officials onboard.
Referring to this, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted, “Boost to Connectivity in North East: Trial run of a passenger train from Silchar in Assam to Vangaichungpao in Manipur’s Tamenglong district was successfully completed recently. It will ensure better connectivity between Manipur & Assam and provide ease of travel for passengers.”
Manipur State Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to Twitter to hail this moment as a ‘historic moment.’ He added that the people of Manipur are immensely grateful to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
Currently, Vaingaichunpao–Imphal railway line is under construction which will link Manipur’s Capital with the Indian Railway network, and it is expected work on this important railway line will be finished by March 2022. And once work on this route is completed, it will be the longest railway tunnel near Imphal.
