A new silent boat experience on Lough Ernecombines comfort with panoramic views and the chance to hear the distinctive sounds of County Fermanagh’s extensive waterways.
An all-electric passenger boat is the latest way to enjoy the sights and sounds of the stunning Fermanagh Lakelands in Northern Ireland.
Launched by Erne Water Taxi, the Island Discovery pontoon boat is the first of its kind on the island of Ireland and offers seating with tables for up to 12 passengers.
The eco-friendly and fully accessible boat enables passengers to enjoy panoramic views and soak up the unique sounds of the Lakeland habitat that otherwise could be drowned out by motor noise.
The range of island Discoveryspecialty tours includes one-hour evening cruises at dusk offering the sublime experience of gliding through beautiful scenery as the sunsets while being serenaded by live music.
On the Island Town Tour, a local historian is on board to give fascinating insights into the social and cultural history of Enniskillen, while a Whiskey and Blues Cruise and a Gin and Jazz Night are also on offer throughout the year.
The Island Discovery can also be hired privately for special events.
Erne Water Taxi owner Barry Flanagan says: “This has been a labour of love. It is an idea I have had for a long time and I am so proud to have launched this new experience on the Erne. The pontoon boat is the latest addition to the Erne Water Taxi range of water adventures. Among these are private tours onboard an eight-seater motorboat that travels the length and breadth of the lough, stopping at its main islands.
A tour of Lower Lough Erne will include a visit to atmospheric and historically important Devenish Island, where the ruins of a sixth-century monastery lie. Peaceful Inishmacsaintand White Island, famous for its 2,000-year-old stone carvings, are also key stopping points.
On a tour of Upper Lough Erne, the boat passes beautiful Crom Castle, a heritage highpoint with its tranquil landscape of woodlands and historical ruins, and beautiful Belle Isle Estate.
Along the way on every tour, passionate guides explain the history, geology, nature and mythology of the area bringing the ancient landscape and giant spirit of the area to life.
