Los Angeles International Airport Serves 5.8 Million Passengers In May

LAX Projects 12 M Passengers March-April for Spring Break Travel

Los Angeles: In May, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) recorded its highest passenger volume since January 2020, buoyed by a continued strong return of international travel.

In May, LAX served a total of 5,835,467 guests, the most since 6,678,451 passengers used the airport in January 2020. The May 2022 total was 43.9% higher than the same month in 2021, with 1,379,494 international passengers compared with just 597,016 in May 2021. Domestic passenger traffic also showed a strong 28.9-per cent increase compared with May 2021 (4,455,973 passengers compared to 3,457,046).

For the first five months of 2022, LAX has served 24,528,536 passengers, an increase of 87.5% from the same period in 2021. Through those five months, LAX is already more than halfway to last year’s total of 48 million passengers.

A total of 240,260 tons of air cargo was handled at LAX in May, a decrease of 7.6% from May 2021.
