Lifts at the Cliffs of Moher offer the full experience

Electric buggies have been wheeled out at one of the best experiences and grandest sights in Ireland.

People with disabilities or limited mobility heading to the famous Cliffs of Moher in County Clare are now able to enjoy the entire experience courtesy of two new electric buggies.

Named the Burren Buggy and Wild Atlantic Shuttle, the golf buggy-style carts are operated by trained staff and help facilitate guided tours that include the viewing platforms overlooking the majestic cliffs and the iconic nineteenth-century O’Brien’s Tower.

The ‘Lifts of Moher’ are proving to be hugely popular, particularly for individuals with mobility issues, those with disabilities, the elderly, their families and carers.

The carts are free of charge and subject to availability. No pre-booking is required.

“The beauty of the experience is that users get to see and learn about the cliffs in a way that they wouldn’t have otherwise,” said Geraldine Enright, Director of the Cliffs of Moher Experience.

“The buggies are electric in keeping with our sustainability ethos and they are widely accepted by onlookers recognising the care and service offered by the Cliffs of Moher Experience to those in need. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” she added.

The introduction of the buggies is the latest in a series of measures introduced at the spectacular County Clare attraction to further enhance on-site accessibility.

Fully accessible throughout the visitor centre building and main viewing areas, the Cliffs of Moher site provides ample disability parking and drop-off. Wheelchairs also are available for use from different areas on-site.

Rising to 214m (700 feet) at their highest point and stretching for 8km along the western coast of County Clare, the Cliffs of Moher are one of the great sights of Ireland’s stunning Wild Atlantic Way.

The cliffs were awarded UNESCO Global Geopark status in 2011 and safe, paved pathways all around the site make it easy to enjoy spectacular vistas over the Atlantic Ocean and the Aran Islands.

The natural wonder is complemented by the eco-friendly Cliffs of Moher Visitor Centre. Sculpted into the landscape, it features informative and entertaining exhibits in an extensive gallery space and auditorium.

An on-site theatre offers an exhilarating virtual-reality cliff-face adventure, while two cafes, a gift store and a craft and retail street offer the chance to take home a unique memento of your trip.

With free Wi-Fi available throughout the main visitor centre building and viewing platforms, a range of information about the cliffs can also be accessed via smartphone.

The multilingual Cliffs of Moher Experience app contains 13 audio tracks featuring contributions from people with an intrinsic knowledge of the rich history, geology, flora and fauna of Ireland’s most visited natural attraction.
