Jharkhand’s fossil park all set to welcome visitors

Ranchi, Jharkhand: State Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated a 95-acre park on Rajmahal hills in Sahebganj on Thursday (Jun 30), built to preserve the Jurassic-era fossils found at the site.

The fossil park in Mandro block, constructed at a cost of Rs 10.79 crore, will also promote eco-tourism, besides generating livelihood for locals, officials said.

As per the reports, several plants and animal fossils of the Jurassic-era, have been discovered on Rajmahal hills, which are estimated to be 200 -145 million years old. If records are to go by, Palaeobotanist Birbal Sahani is said to be the first one to have conducted an extensive study of the fossils.

Private vehicles will not be allowed in the park, and only battery-operated auto-rickshaws will be allowed to ply inside.
