Tokyo: Fukuoka bound Jetstar flight from Narita airport, carrying 136 passengers and six crew members, made an emergency landing at Chubu Centrair International Airport in central Japan on Saturday (Jan 7) after authorities received an apparent bomb threat from an international caller.
According to a CNN report citing local reports, Narita airport in Tokyo received the call at 6:20 a.m. Japan time from a man in Germany. The caller who spoke in English said that he had put a bomb on the aircraft.
According to the report, citing police sources, the caller claimed to have placed 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of plastic explosives in the aircraft’s cargo hold and demanded to speak with the “manager” or he would set off them off.
No explosives have been found on board the plane. A Chubu airport spokesperson said flights had resumed at the facility following a four-hour suspension and the incident is being investigated further.
A Jetstar Japan spokesperson later said the plane had landed normally at 7.41 am local time “after a potential security incident”.
“Out of an abundance of caution, passengers disembarked via emergency slides. We know this would have been distressing for passengers and thank them for their cooperation.
