In the meantime, the room occupancy rate of classified and non-classified hotels was 54.41 percent and 24.04 percent, respectively.
The number of international air transport passengers in November 2022 increased by 1.06 percent.
A total of 4.58 million international visitor arrivals to Indonesia at the main entry gates were recorded from January to November 2022, rising by 228.30 percent from last year. Most international visitors visited Indonesia through the main entry gates (3.38 million visits). During that period, the number of international visitor arrivals at the main entry gates comprised 2.74 million by air transport mode, 599.79 thousand by sea transport mode, and 35.95 thousand by land transport mode.
The number of international visitor arrivals to Indonesia in November 2022 was 657.27 thousand, scaling up by 336.50 percent compared with November 2021. In the meantime, international visitor arrivals decreased by 3.19 percent compared with October 2022. From the total visitor arrivals in November 2022, as many as 544.83 thousand visited through the main entry gates, and 112.44 thousand arrived through the border entry gates.
In November 2022, international visitor arrivals at the main entry gates by air transport mode were 429.98 thousand, scaled up by 2,059.72 percent compared with November 2021. The airport with the highest increase was Ngurah Rai Airport-Bali at 4.78 million percent. It was followed by Soekarno Hatta-Banten and Sam Ratulangi-Sulawesi Utara, at 499.49 thousand percent and 102.23 percent, respectively. Compared with October 2022, air transport arrival decreased by 3.82 percent. The highest decrease was recorded in Sultan Badarudin II Airport-Sumatera Selatan, at 100.00 percent. It was followed by Sultan Hasanuddin Airport- Sulawesi Selatan and Lombok International Airport-Nusa Tenggara Barat, respectively, at 41.36 percent and 13.70 percent.
The number of international visitor arrivals at the main entry gates by sea transport in November 2022 significantly increased by 36.33 thousand percent compared with November 2021. A significant increase was recorded in Batam-Kepulauan Riau by 34.18 thousand percent. On the other hand, compared with the previous month, the number of international visitor arrivals by sea transport experienced a decrease of 1.90 percent. The highest decrease was recorded in Dumai-Riau, at 35.91 percent, followed by Tanjung Pinang- Kepulauan Riau (20.32 percent) and Tanjung Uban-Kepulauan Riau (17.35 percent).
Furthermore, international visitor arrivals at the main entry gates by land transport in November 2022 rose significantly by 3.94 thousand percent compared with November 2021. The significant climb was experienced by Entikong Border Station-Kalimantan Barat, at 88.45 thousand percent, followed by Aruk Border Station-Kalimantan Barat and Atambua Border Station-Nusa Tenggara Timur, at 39.80 thousand percent, and 1.67 thousand percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the number of arrivals by land transport mode in November 2022 decreased by 15.09 percent compared with October 2022. Aruk Border Station-Kalimantan Barat, experienced the highest decrease, at 43.43 percent.
In contrast to the main entry gates, the number of international visitors at the border entry gates showed a decrease of 13.65 percent compared with November 2021. This condition was driven by a decline in the number of international visitors at the land border gates by 23.32 percent. Compared with the previous month, the number of visitors at the border entry gates were also decreased by 1.21 percent, which influenced by the decrease in the number of international visitors at sea border gates, at 8.71 percent.
From the number of arrivals in November 2022, international visitors in all groups of nationality experienced positive growth compared with November 2021. Oceanian visitors recorded the highest positive growth of 2.19 thousand percent, while the lowest growth was Asian (excluding ASEAN) at 81.01 percent. Middle Eastern visitors recorded the highest growth of 43.73 percent, compared with the previous month. In comparison, European visitors experienced the highest negative growth at 18.73 percent.
Regarding nationality, the number of arrivals to Indonesia during November 2022 was dominated by Singaporean visitors, with 99.39 thousand (15.12 percent). Malaysian visitors followed it with 99.38 thousand (15.12 percent), Australian visitors with 79.37 thousand (12.08 percent), Timorese visitors with 67.33 thousand (10.24 percent), and Indian visitors with 36.71 thousand (5.59 percent).
Meanwhile, the length of stay of the international visitors who left Indonesia in November 2022 was 10.66 days. On average, ASEAN visitors have the shortest length of stay at 5.15 days, while European visitors have the most extended average length of stay, which was 18.47 days. In more detail, the longest average length of stay was recorded for Russian visitors at 37.41 days, while the shortest was recorded for Hong Kong visitors at 1.00 days.
Room Occupancy Rate (ROR) of Hotels
The room occupancy rate of classified hotels in Indonesia in November 2022 was 54.41 percent. Kalimantan Timur had the highest room occupancy rate of 66.51 percent, followed by DI Yogyakarta and Sulawesi Tengah, with 64.95 percent and 63.09 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, with a room occupancy rate of 33.72, percent, Papua became the province with the lowest room occupancy rate.
The room occupancy rate in November 2022 was 6.58 percentage points higher than in November 2021. An increase in the rate of room occupancy happened in most provinces. Bali had the highest increase of 28.24 percentage points, followed by Jambi (16.53 percentage points) and Kepulauan Riau (14.13 percentage points). Meanwhile, Banten, Sumatera Barat, and DI Yogyakarta recorded a slight increase at 0.20 percentage points, 0.25 percentage points, and 0.29 percentage points, respectively.
The room occupancy rate in November 2022 increased by 2.10 percentage points, compared with October 2022. The highest increase was recorded in Sulawesi Tengah, at 9.30 percentage points, followed by Nusa Tenggara Barat (7.72 percentage points) and Sumatera Barat (6.62 percentage points). In comparison, Kalimantan Tengah experienced the lowest increase at 0.72 percentage points. On the other hand, 13 provinces experienced a decrease in room occupancy rates. Maluku Utara and Sulawesi Barat had the highest decrease, 14.03 percentage points, and 8.59 percentage points, respectively.
The room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels in November 2022 was 24.04 percent. DKI Jakarta had the highest room occupancy rate of 41.05 percent, followed by Riau and Kalimantan Utara, with 32.50 percent and 31.54 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, Nusa Tenggara Timur recorded the lowest occupancy rate of non-classified hotels at 14.15 percent.
In line with the classified hotel, the room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels also increased by 1.16 percentage points compared with the previous year. Bali had the highest increase by 15.99 percentage points, followed by Kalimantan Utara and Maluku Utara at 8.20 and 5.90 percentage points, respectively. The lowest increase was in Kepulauan Bangka Belitung at 0.07 percentage points.
Compared with the previous month, the room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels experienced a decrease of 0.37 percentage points. The highest decrease was experienced in Kepulauan Riau and Kalimantan Timur, at 19.63 and 4.86 percentage points, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest decrease was recorded in Lampung at 0.32 percentage points. In total, the room occupancy rate of classified and non-classified hotels was 41.41 percent in November 2022, which increased by 5.78 percentage points compared to November 2021 and also increased by 0.71 percentage points compared with the previous month.
In terms of the classified hotels, the highest room occupancy rate in November 2022 was recorded in 4-star-rated hotels at 59.93 percent, while the lowest was in 1-star-rated hotels at 30.83 percent. Compared to November 2021, the highest increase was recorded in 5-star- rated at 13.22 percentage points. Meanwhile, compared with October 2022, the highest increase was reported in 5-star-rated classified hotels at 3.86 percentage points.
Average Length of Stay of Foreign and Indonesian Guests
The average length of stay of guests at classified hotels in November 2022 was 1.70 days, which increased by 0.11 points compared with November 2021. In the same way, the average length of stay in November 2022 also increased by 0.04 points compared with the previous month. On average, in November 2022, foreign guests stayed longer in classified hotels than Indonesian guests, at 2.81 days and 1.63 days, respectively.
The highest average length of stay at classified hotels in November 2022 was in Bali and Sumatra Barat, at 2.51 days and 2.31 days, respectively. Meanwhile, the shortest stay in classified hotels was in Sulawesi Tenggara at 1.15 days. Regarding the foreign guests, the highest average length of stay in classified hotels was in Kalimantan Tengah at 3.96 days, while the shortest of stay in classified hotels was in Kalimantan Utara at 1.00 days. Given Indonesian guests, the highest average length of stay in classified hotels was in Sumatera Barat at 2.31 days, while the shortest of stay in classified hotels was in Sulawesi Tenggara at 1.15 days.
