Indian Domestic air traffic registers huge growth in August 2022 compared to 2021, DGCA report said

New Delhi, India: A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Friday (Sep 16) published the report on Domestic Passenger traffic for August 2022, according to the report 1.01 cr passengers flew in August 2022 while only 67.01 lakh passengers in the same time previous year.

Passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-August 2022 were 770.70 lakhs as against 460.45 lakhs during the corresponding period of the previous year thereby registering an annual growth of 67.38 % and monthly growth of 50.96 %.

IndiGo remained the country’s largest airline with a market share of 57.7 per cent, followed by Vistara with a share of 9.7 per cent, which was lower than 10.4 per cent registered in July, as per DGCA data. IndiGo’s market share declined from 58.8 per cent in July.

In August, Air Asia was on top in terms of On-Time Performance (OTP) while SpiceJet had the highest passenger load factor.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of August 2022 has been 0.84 %. In August 2022, a total of 557 passenger-related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines. The number of complaints per 10,000 passengers carried for the month of August 2022 has been around 0.55.
