Iceland: Turnover according to VAT reports for the period May to June 2022 in Icelandic tourism sectors was over 139 million ISK, an increase of almost 150% from the previous year.
Overnight stays in hotels in July were approximately 599,000 compared with 378,181 in July 2021. The number of overnight stays by Icelanders was 103,290 (-16%) and the number of overnight stays by foreign guests was 495,877 (+94%).
Register-based employment in the tourism industries in Iceland was 32,434 in July 2022, an increase of 31% compared with July 2021. In the 12-month period from August 2021 to July 2022, an average of 26,159 individuals worked in the tourism industry compared with 17,590 in the previous 12-month period.
In August, there were 292,155 departures of passengers from Keflavik airport compared with 172,415 in August 2021. Departures of passengers with foreign citizenship were 242,687 compared with 151,847 in August 2021.
