Airbnb Partnering with VISIT FLORIDA to Help Tourism Recover

Airbnb and subsidiary Hotel is canceling all booked reservations within the Washington, D.C., metro area throughout President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, the company mentioned in a statement shared by Airbnb spokesman Ben Breit.

All reservations throughout inauguration week can be canceled. Biden’s inauguration is next Wednesday.

“At present, in response to numerous local, state, and federal officers asking individuals to not travel to Washington, D.C., we’re asserting that Airbnb will cancel reservations within the Washington, D.C. metro space throughout the inauguration week,” Airbnb stated within the assertion. “Moreover, we are going to stop any new reservations within the Washington, D.C., area from being booked throughout that period by blocking such reservations.”

Airbnb also said that the decision was informed by input from its host group, along with Washington, D.C., officers; D.C. Metro Police; and members of Congress this week.

“Particularly, Mayor Bowser, Governor Hogan (of Maryland), and Governor Northam (of Virginia) have been clear that guests shouldn’t travel to the D.C. Metro area for the inauguration,” Airbnb stated.

The decision comes because the firm has been made conscious of rising reports that armed militias and hate groups are trying to journey to disrupt the inauguration, it stated within the statement.

Airbnb continues to ban from its platform individuals concerned about the Capitol riot last week.

“We have now recognized numerous individuals who’re both associated with identified hate groups or otherwise concerned within the criminal activity on the Capitol Building, they usually have been banned from Airbnb’s platform,” Airbnb stated.

The company will absolutely refund any canceled reservation and reimburse

Whereas Airbnb has taken drastic steps, different space resorts had been keeping their safety plans close to the vest after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, which will even host the swearing-in ceremony for Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.

Some Hilton properties, together with Capital Hilton, are close to the White House and other sites. Nigel Glennie, the spokesperson for Hilton, stated these areas will be congregation factors for both celebrations and occasions together with protests, “It won’t surprise you that our D.C. resorts constantly review their safety and security procedures,” Glennie stated.

The moves resorts are making to make sure visitor and employee safety are less stringent than what Airbnb has done. However, Airbnb’s capability to put a blanket cancel on reservations comes with totally different implications than if a hotel firm did the same factor.

“Airbnb is basically totally different than a hotel in that they’re merely a platform, they aren’t public areas, they don’t have employees, and they don’t have the kind of debt service that a hotel has,” David Sherwyn, professor of hospitality human resources and law and director of the Cornell University Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor & Employment Relations,

Sherwyn added that Airbnb also does not have security staffed at their properties and that the company ensures its providers. So, ought to something go wrong, the potential price is high to the corporate.
