Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) on Thursday (July 15) release the tourist arrival figure of June 2021, the Board announced that the provisional visitor arrivals of June were 6,200, a 57.6% drop year on year, with a daily average of around 207 visitors, because of reduced demand as well as travel restrictions and quarantine requirements in place in Hong Kong and other markets amid the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
The Hong Kong SAR Government’s ban on travel to Hong Kong from the Philippines continued into June, while bans on travel from Indonesia and the UK came into effect on 25 June and 1 July, respectively.
The suspension of travel from the Philippines, Indonesia and the UK has had an impact on overall demand.
Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hong Kong saw cumulative visitor arrivals of around 34,000 in the first half of the year, a 99.0% drop year on year. Besides, in view of the overwhelming response received by the “Spend-to-Redeem Free Tour” programme, the HKTB plans to extend the programme to reward and encourage the public to receive the vaccines by offering about 190 free tours from the second round of the programme to those who have received the jabs, with a view to helping Hong Kong achieve herd immunity soon and resume travel.
