Award winning street food champions GRUB, in partnership with Manchester City Council, will be bringing their travelling food festival to Wythenshawe every month starting this week on Saturday 23 July
GRUB will transform Wythenshawe centre into a bustling street food market, hosting over 14 North West-based traders, including a brewery bar and plenty of vegan-friendly options.
Local foodies, families, residents -and pooches- will be able to sample tastes from Manchester to India. Top-notch food and drink will be served up from outlets such as Runaway Brewery, Desert Island Dumplings, Rad Burger, Il Forno, The Neighbourhood Coop, Thief Street Grill & Waffle and The Chaat Walas.
The fun doesn’t stop there, the street market will also have a stage for live music and DJs. There will also be kids’ entertainment, keeping fun-seekers of all ages entertained whilst they enjoy their delicious food.
GRUB Carnival kicks off on Saturday 23rd July at 12 noon and runs until 8 pm. It will then return on the 4th Saturday of every month. The event is free entry and everyone is welcome. GRUB carnival will be found at Wythenshawe Civic Centre, Rowlandsway, Wythenshawe M22 5RG.
Manchester City Council hopes that the addition of GRUB carnival in Wythenshawe will give the locals the chance to enjoy some entertainment and good food, produced by independent outlets, right in the town centre.
In tandem with this, GRUB specialises in transforming underused spaces into flourishing food and drink venues with a distinct focus on local people and supporting small businesses in the area. The council hope that the GRUB carnival will transform the underused part of the town centre and attract more locals.
Councillor Lee-Anne Igbon, the Executive Member for Vibrant Neighbourhoods, said:
“ After the closure of Wythenshawe market, I am thrilled that the space is being repurposed and transformed into a bustling market.
“ It’s great that GRUB is opening another space in our city, GRUB Carnival promises to be one of the summer highlights and local traders will be serving up some mouth-watering food for everyone to enjoy every month- I hope you manage to catch it before it goes!”
To support the local area and small businesses, GRUB will also be liaising with the Wythenshawe community to collaborate and offer support to budding entrepreneurs through their ‘School Of GRUB’ scheme.
The ‘School Of GRUB’ is a free-to-attend workshop presented by successful street food traders giving advice on how to get started in the food business, the best prospects from those workshops then get free mentoring from GRUB and a leg up to get to their first street food gig.
