Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently made an announcement, that Goa will not be hosting the popular annual Sunburn Festival this year.

The Chief Minister stated that the popular electronic dance music (EDM) Sunburn festival organised by Percept Live, which is one of the state’s year-end tourism highlights, will not be hosted this time due to the COVID situation.

While talking to the media personnel, he added, “We have not given permission to Sunburn to hold the festival this year. I have already passed the file stating this.”

Referring to this, Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar stated that he was of the opinion that the festival should be organised, but added that the Chief Minister’s word on the issue is final.

The Tourism Minister further added that any decision on hosting any such event is taken by the Chief Minister. He added that they (CMO) are aware of the pandemic situation and the SOPs. Although the file had come to them, they sent it to the CMO for a decision, he reiterated. The final decision is, therefore, taken by the Chief Minister, adding that the Chief Minister might have taken the call keeping the COVID situation in the state in mind.
