WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced on Wednesday (Sept 14) the expansion of its TSA PreCheck® program with the addition of Air Europa, Flair, Volaris El Salvador, and ITA Airways.
Air Europa is a Spain-based airline and member of the SkyTeam Alliance, Flair Airlines is a Canada-based airline with operations throughout North America, Volaris El Salvador operates out of El Salvador with flights to the United States, Mexico and Central America, and ITA Airways is an Italy-based airline. All are commercial air carriers with international flights to and from the United States.
TSA PreCheck is available for eligible passengers when departing from a U.S. airport on domestic or international flights, or from Nassau, Bahamas, and after returning to the United States for connecting domestic flights. Travellers who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals and U.S. lawful permanent residents can apply for TSA PreCheck for a cost of $85 for a five-year membership. Existing members may renew up to six months before their membership expires. Renewal may be completed online for $70 for an additional 5 years.
When new applicants are approved, they receive a unique “Known Traveler Number” (KTN) that, when added to an airline reservation, makes them eligible to use TSA PreCheck lanes at airport security checkpoints. Children 12 and under can join a parent/guardian with TSA PreCheck in the dedicated lanes. In August 2022, 95% of TSA PreCheck passengers waited less than 5 minutes.
Passengers who are members of other DHS Trusted Traveler Programs including Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI may be eligible for TSA PreCheck screening. TSA PreCheck is also available at no cost for U.S. Armed Forces service members, including Reservists, and members of the National Guard.
