More than thousands of travelers are stranded at US airports as flight cancellations and delays continue across the United States on Wednesday.
Total flight delays within, into, or out of the United States on Wednesday is around 5,650. Total flight cancellations within, into, or out of the United States on Wednesday is around 2,914, according to the tracking website FlightAware reports.
Southwest Airlines itself canceled more than 2,500 flights on Wednesday, accounting for nearly 90 percent of all scrubbed US flights, according to FlightAware.
The chaos has left thousands of exasperated passengers sleeping in terminals as they search for solutions.
Southwest said on its website that those who have had flights canceled can request a refund and those who planned to travel through Jan. 2 can change their trip at no additional cost.
The airline has blamed the cancellations on the bad weather across the US and its aftermath, as well as challenges in getting crews to access updated schedules.
In a tweet on Tuesday, US President Joe Biden said that his administration is “working to ensure airlines are held accountable” for disruptions. He urged that passengers check to see whether they are entitled to compensation.
