Overnight stays by foreign tourists in Finland's Lapland region increased by one-fifth in December 2022

Finland recorded 2.69 million overnight stays for resident tourists in July 2022

Finland: In total, 2.69 million overnight stays were recorded for resident tourists and 0.57 million overnight stays for non-resident tourists in July 2022. The number of nights spent by resident tourists was 16 per cent lower than in July 2021. The number of overnight stays by non-resident tourists was triple compared to the previous year. The total number of overnight stays in July 2022 was on the same level as in July 2019 before the corona pandemic. These figures are preliminary data from Statistics Finland’s accommodation statistics.

The number of overnight stays by resident tourists was lower than in July 2021 in almost all regions. The number of overnight stays by resident tourists was higher than one year earlier only in Uusimaa and Päijät-Häme.

The number of nights spent by resident tourists was nine per cent higher than in July 2019.

The number of nights spent by foreign tourists was 29 per cent lower than in July 2019. The biggest groups of foreign visitors were from Sweden, Germany and the United States.

The occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 61 per cent. The occupancy rate was on a level with July 2021.

The average price of a hotel room was EUR 118, having been EUR 106 one year earlier. On average, hotel rooms were most expensive in South Savo, EUR 167, due to the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
