Fiji see a growth of 26.6% in visitor arrivals in July compared to June 2022

Fiji: Provisional numbers show that visitor arrivals for July 2022 totalled 78,638. This is an increase of 26.6% compared to June 2022.

While visitor arrival numbers for July 2022 have greatly improved, the number is lower [18.4%] compared to the visitor arrival numbers for July from the pre-COVID era in 2019.

Of the 78,638 visitors, 77,691 came by air while 947 came by sea. The sea arrivals were mostly seamen on fishing vessels (744) and 203 arrivals by yachts.

Visitors by Gender and Age

The majority of visitors were in the age range of 25-64 years (59.9%), which accounts for the vast majority of the working-age population. Children aged 14 and below accounted for 19.6% while; 11.6% were youths aged 15-24, with the remaining 8.9% comprising those in the predominantly retirement age group of 65 and over.

Resident Departures for July 2022

A total of 11,296 Fiji Residents departed our shores during the month of July of which 8,623 or 76.3% were for a short-term absence of under three months and 474 or 4.2% were for over three months and within 12 months period. A total of 2,199 or 19.5% of resident departures were for a longer-term absence of 1 year or more.

The reasons for departure as reported by residents leaving for a short-term absence were as follows;

  • Holiday – 45.7%
  • Visiting Friends or Relatives – 40.0%
  • Business – 6.4%
  • Employment – 3.8%
  • Education/Training – 1.9%
  • Others – 2.2%.
