Cyprus Attractions

Cyprus is a European island nation located in the northeastern part of the Mediterranean.

Some call it the jewel “of the Mediterranean, not only because it is the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite, but because it is a magical island that combines a rich archaeological cultural heritage with great natural beauty and a hospitable population.

Cyprus recorded 4 Million tourist arrival in 2019. Cyprus moving fast toward the pre-pandemic level, as the country received 1.6 million tourists during the first half of the year (January to July 2022).

Cyprus is blessed with pristine beaches blue water, pine-scented forests and an excellent climate. It is the state with the most sunshine in Europe (with more than 300 sunny days a year) and due to its very low percentage of industrialization of Cyprus has been crowned as the most environmentally healthy country in the world.

Cyprus is in fact the little sister of Greece since its language is Greek as well as its culture, mentality, food and affinity – are Greek. Cyprus offers visitors various options for vacation – from a fun summer vacation in one of the clubs scattered throughout the island basking on the beach under the sun to travelling around the island between beautiful landscapes in the mountainous area or along the coast. The cities of Cyprus have nice facilities – both Nicosia, the capital, which is divided between the Greek and Turkish parts, Larnaca, tourist ships come and Limassol, which is the second largest city on the island.

TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Paphos Forest – the largest forest, composed of Brutia pine and golden oak. The centre of the growing forest trees and impressive heights is that old age is more than 100 years.

Limassol – the city is the country’s second-largest island and is located in the Gulf of Akrotiri. This is a tourist town with beautiful beaches, a lively promenade with a selection of tavernas, and a variety of entertainment venues. The commercial sector has the most important wineries in Limassol since most of the wineries are located in the city. It is worth visiting the Museum of Folk Art and ancient Roman Btiatrn. The attractive Citadel Colussi is located outside the city. It is possible to visit the entire area of the castle.

The Troodos Mountains – the famous Troodos Mountains are near the city of Limassol. There are mountain range tracks for SUVs, walking, bicycles and buses. Mountains are named after the village near Troodos mountain. The highest peak is Mount Olympus. The diverse vegetation on the mountains includes trees, such as pine and oak, as well as olives, almonds, citrus and grapes, which produce about 200 types of wine. There are also wild sheep in the forest, which are considered protected species. In the northwest Troodos Mountains is the Kikos Monastery, also called the Holy Virgin Monastery, which was built in 1100. It is the largest and richest monastery in Cyprus, boasting frescoes and mosaics from the Byzantine period.

Larnaca – is a modern port city that offers a variety of attractions, including churches and mosques. You should also visit the old town and fishing port and watch the fishermen as they work. Remains of the ancient village of Choirokoitia, which housed the first Htosbhim of Cyprus, is a half-hour drive from the city. This is the most important archaeological site in Cyprus. In addition, close to the airport there is a white salt lake, which in winter is home to flamingo flocks and migratory birds.

Ayia Napa – is a resort town situated in the southeastern part of Cyprus. The town has become extremely popular among young people thanks to the beautiful beaches, nightlife, and cheap entertainment. The town has a variety of pubs and nightclubs, as well as a variety of watersports during the day. You should also visit the town’s maritime museum, the first of its kind in Cyprus, which features a reconstruction of the sea bed with fossils of oysters and corals, aquatic plants and more. Another attraction is the Water World Water Park. Near the town is another resort town named Frotaras which also has excellent beaches.

Northern Cyprus has many historical sites such as the remains of fortresses, as well as small villages and pleasant beaches.

Troodos National Forest Park – the Troodos Mountains, due to their altitude, are covered in snow during winter. It is a popular resort for skiers during the skiing months. Tourists and locals alike visit the mountains during the summer to take a break from the searing summer heat down at sea level. Walk through the forests on one of the nature trails and take in the wonderful scents and scenery and enjoy looking at the waterfalls and surrounding views.

WEATHER

Summer: (mid-May to mid-October) has the highest average temperatures –  30 degrees Celsius along the coast, and even higher inland.

Spring: March is still chilly with an average temperature of 19 0C day and 90C at night. This is a wonderful time to visit Cyprus since the entire island is enveloped in a colourful and fragrant carpet, which peaks from April to mid-May.

Fall: Towards the end of October, the evenings grow cooler. The climate is still pleasant for outdoor touring, and the water temperature is still comfortable for swimming.

Winter: The winter months from December to January are pleasant with relatively little rain. Even in the winter, it is possible to wander the streets and enjoy the sun on your face.  The Troodos Mountains are covered in snow, welcoming winter sports enthusiasts.
