The new year got off to a slow start at Berlin Brandenburg Airport due to the pandemic. In total, around 768,000 passengers took off and landed at BER last January, around 300,000 fewer than in December 2021. Nevertheless, more than three times as many people used BER compared to years ago. In the pre-crisis month of January 2020, 2.25 million passengers passed through the former Schönefeld and Tegel airports.
A total of 9,100 flights were registered in January, totalling 3,100 fewer than in December 2021. In January of last year, around 4,000 aircraft were recorded at BER.
2,325 tons of air freight was processed last month, totalling 775 tons less than the previous month. In January 2021 the same figure was 1,708 tons, in the pre-Corona month of January 2020 it was around 2,620 tons.

However, compared to January 2021, it can be seen that the year began much better than in the first winter of the pandemic. More and more passengers know: air travel is more complex under the current coronavirus-related conditions, but of course, it is still possible. It also helps that, together with our partners at the airport, we have found improved methods of dealing with the challenges posed by travel conditions that are subject to ongoing revision.”Â
