DENVER – British Airways from Wednesday (September 1) resumed nonstop service between Denver and London-Heathrow, United Kingdom (LHR). British Airways last departed Denver on March 16, 2020, and Denver has
been without nonstop flights to London for more than 500 days.
“The return of British Airways to Denver is a significant milestone on our path to economic recovery,” said
Mayor Michael B. Hancock. “Nonstop connectivity to London is critical, both commercially and culturally, to
ensuring that recovery is sustainable for our city and our residents for years to come.”
Service will initially operate three days per week on board a 235-seat Boeing 777 aircraft. Prior to the COVID19 pandemic, London ranked as Denver’s second-largest international market in terms of passenger demand,
behind only Cancun, Mexico. Nearly 250,000 passengers travelled between Denver and London in 2019, the
busiest year ever for travel between the two cities.
“We can’t wait to welcome our customers back on board our Denver flights and we are honoured to be playing
our part in reuniting families and friends with their loved ones after such a long time apart,” said Marie
Hilditch, Head of North America Sales for British Airways. “The safety of our customers and colleagues has
always been at the heart of everything we do. We know some customers won’t have flown for a long time, we
can assure them we have a range of COVID-19 measures in place to provide stress and hassle-free travel.”
On Sept. 1, 1998, British Airways became the first carrier to operate a year-round nonstop transatlantic service
at Denver. Flights initially operated to London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) but moved to Heathrow in 2002. Over
the past 23 years, British Airways has transported more than 3.6 million people to and from Denver.
“British Airways has been a committed DEN airline partner for nearly 25 years,” said DEN CEO Phil
Washington. “Today, we celebrate the renewal of this important nonstop flight that connects passengers to
Europe and beyond.”
British Airways is currently the only airline providing nonstop flights between Denver and London. The U.S.
citizens are permitted to enter the United Kingdom for nonessential travel, but restrictions apply, and
travellers are advised to consult government regulations prior to travel.
