London, United Kingdom: British Airways will cancel 100 flights to and from Heathrow Airport on Monday (Sep 19) to minimize noise during Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral.
The Airline said its cancellations were on short-haul European flights where multiple services run on the same route, and that it was adding larger aircraft where possible to help customers re-book on operating flights.
Alternatively, travellers can choose to have a refund. No long-haul BA flights will be affected but some will be re-timed, the airline added.
There will be no aircraft movements for 30 minutes from 11.40 am and 12.10 pm to avoid disrupting a two-minute silence at the end of the funeral, and no arrivals for 35 minutes starting at 1.45 pm during the procession of the Queen’s hearse. Departures will be barred for 1 hour 40 minutes from 3.05 pm as the cortege approaches Windsor Castle for the former monarch’s interment, and limited until 9 pm when the service concludes.
Lufthansa Group in its travel update informed about the possible flight schedule disruptions to and from London, due to temporary closures and restrictions of the airspace over London on Monday, 19 September.
