Easter travel begins at BER Airport

Berlin Airport Report Almost two million passengers in April

The number of passengers at Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt increased significantly in Berlin and Brandenburg last month. A total of 1.8 million people used Terminals 1 and 2 at BER. This was 500,000 more passengers than in March 2022 and 1.5 million more than in the pandemic month of April 2021. In the April of 2019, prior to the year Coronavirus broke out, 3,1 million people travelled through the then Tegel and Schönefeld airports.

This means that a total of 4.8 million people took off from or landed at BER airport in the first four months of this year. That is four million passengers more than in the first four months of 2021.

Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “With almost five million passengers in the first four months, we have already reached half of the total level of the previous year. This leaves us optimistic about the further development of air traffic this year. During the Easter holidays, in particular, we demonstrated that BER airport is equipped to handle increasing flight operations. We continue to work hard with our partners to offer our passengers the smoothest possible operations in the future.”

14,600 aircraft took off from and landed at BER last month, an increase of 2,100 flights compared with the previous month of March. In April 2021, there were 4,800 take-offs and landings. In 2019, 24,600 aircraft movements were recorded at Tegel and Schönefeld. A total of 2,500 tonnes of air freight were handled last April, 300 tonnes up on the previous month of April 2021, and almost at the pre-Coronavirus level of 2019.
