Jetstar Asia to return to China

Bali Bound Jetstar flight from Melbourne diverted due to ‘miscommunication’ in aircraft swap

A Bali-bound Jetstar flight JQ35 made a U-turn and headed back to Melbourne on Wednesday (Dec 28) morning because of an “internal miscommunication” in the deployment of a larger aircraft.

A Jetstar spokesman on Wednesday said the airline had upgraded the plane from an Airbus A321 to a larger Boeing 787 to carry more customers during the busy holiday season, but “due to a miscommunication, the aircraft swap was not approved by the local regulator in Indonesia”.

“As soon as we became aware, the flight returned to Melbourne, and we have rebooked passengers on a flight later today,” the spokesman said.

A Jetstar spokesman said, “We know this has been an extremely frustrating experience for customers and sincerely apologize for what happened. Jetstar had provided passengers with hotel rooms and vouchers as they worked to get them to Bali on flights today and had begun a review into the “miscommunication”.
