Record level of May/June 2019 and 2018 almost reached again
Vienna – For the first third of the summer season (May and June), which runs from May to October, 19.17 million overnight stays were reported in Austrian accommodation establishments, according to preliminary results from Statistics Austria. This is 4.5 % less than in May and June 2019 and just below the 2018 level.
“With 12 million overnight stays, Austrian tourism not only recorded a clear increase of 60.6 % in June 2022 compared to the same month of the previous year but also returned to the pre-crisis level of June 2019 with 12.61 million overnight stays. This means that this year’s summer pre-season has already almost reached the overnight stays records of May/June 2019 and 2018”, explains Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas.

Overnight stays in the first half of 2022 below the pre-crisis level, but clearly above the previous year
At 62.51 million overnight stays, the first half of 2022 (January to June) was 18.1 % below the pre-crisis level of 2019 (76.35 million). The first half of the previous year, which recorded the lowest number of overnight stays since records began at 14.10 million, was thus far exceeded.
