Airlines Welcome the U.S. Announcement on Lifting of Pre-Departure COVID-19 Testing Requirement

New York: The Biden administration announced Friday (Jun 10) that the United States will no longer require a pre-departure COVID-19 test to enter the country beginning Sunday (Jun 12).

A senior administration official said the mandate expires on June 12 at 12.01 am ET, saying the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have determined that it’s no longer necessary.

U.S. Travel Industry welcome the decision, Airlines company also applauds the announcement of lifting pre-departure COVID-19 testing. American Airlines said in a statement, “We are pleased that the Administration has lifted the pre-departure COVID-19 testing requirement for entry to the U.S. We’re grateful to President Biden and to everyone who advocated for this important step forward for the travel and tourism industry’s continued recovery. With the widespread availability of effective treatment options and vaccines, we believe this is the right time for this decision. 

“We are eager to see more of our customers return to international travel and will continue to create a welcoming environment for those who choose to wear a face mask during their travels.”

Delta Airlines said, “We commend the administration’s decision to remove the international pre-departure testing requirement for inbound travellers to the U.S. In light of medical advancements and improved public health metrics, removing this pandemic-era policy is not only welcome news to travellers who are ready to get back out and see the world, but will aid in the overall economic recovery of the U.S.”
