Retired British Airways plane catches on fire during dismantling in Spain

British Airways 747 aircraft caught fire near its cockpit

Firefighters extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported

A retired British Airways 747 aircraft caught fire near its cockpit while being dismantled at a regional airfield in Spain on Monday,

“Emergency companies shortly extinguished the fireplace on one among our retired planes, which occurred throughout the dismantling course of,” British Airways (BA) mentioned in an emailed assertion. “No accidents have been reported.”

The Boeing 747 had been “retired from service for a while” and was now not owned by BA, the airline mentioned. The airplane’s new house owners have been having the plane dismantled at Castellón Airport, situated about 62 miles up the coast of the Balearic Sea from Valencia.

It is believed the fireplace was prompted after plane insulation caught a spark from dismantling gear whereas it was parked on a distant stand for dismantling, BA mentioned.

Castellón Airport tweeted an image of firefighters spraying the airplane with what seemed to be a water cannon mounted on a firetruck.

“Castellón Airport firefighters and Provincial Fireplace Consortium Castellon labored collectively to extinguish a fireplace in a plane,” the airport mentioned. “There have been no accidents to remorse and the fireplace is already confined.”
