Several airports encourage travellers to plan ahead. Houston Airports projects more than 777,000 passengers will fly through George Bush Intercontinental Airport, IAH, and William P. Hobby Airport, HOU, during the 5-day period between Thursday, Sept. 1 and Monday, Sept. 5.

That’s a projected increase of 6%, or more than 43,000 travellers, from the same 5 days surrounding the Labor Day holiday in 2021. HOU is ready to welcome nearly 200,000 people during the holiday travel period, while IAH is anticipating more than 580,000 people to move through its terminals.

More than 1.6 million passengers are expected to travel to, from, or through Hartsfield-Jackson beginning Thursday, Sept. 1 to Tuesday, Sept. 6. Airport projections indicate Friday, Sept. 2 as the busiest day, with a little more than 300,000 passengers expected in ATL.

It is anticipated by the agency that more than 1.8 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and New York Stewart International airports from Thursday, Sept. 1, through Tuesday, Sept. 6. This anticipated volume represents a decrease of 2 per cent compared to the same holiday weekend in 2019.

At the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels, as many as 4.2 million vehicles are expected to cross the Port Authority’s bridges and tunnels over the same six-day period based on recent travel trends, which is an estimate similar to actual traffic volumes from the same six-day holiday weekend in 2019.

The total number of nights booked on short-term rental platforms like Airbnb Inc and Vrbo is up over 16% this Labor Day weekend compared with pre-pandemic levels, according to short-term rental analytics firm AirDNA.

Approximately 1.76 million nights have already been booked across the holiday weekend, a record number of nights for short-term rentals during Labor Day weekend, according to Jamie Lane, AirDNA vice president of research.

International flight bookings this weekend are up 14% compared with pre-pandemic levels, according to scheduled flight ticketing database ForwardKeys.
