November 2022 Traffic Results: 2,345,990 passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group and 1,884,149 by Vienna Airport – Passenger traffic at Vienna Airport at close to 80% of the pre-crisis level of November 2019
The number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group in November 2022 was still at a high level. The total passenger volume of 2,345,990 travellers registered by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) represented a rise of 62.1% from the prior-year period of November 2021, whereas the figure of 1,884,149 travellers at Vienna Airport comprised a year-on-year increase of over 68.8% compared to November 2021. Passenger volumes of the Flughafen Wien Group and Vienna Airport in November 2022 equalled 80.7% and 78.8% respectively of the pre-crisis level of November 2019, thus only about 20% less than before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.Â
The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport rose to 1,450,618 travellers (+65.1%), whereas transfer passenger traffic climbed to 427,908 travellers (+82.8%). The number of flight movements in November 2022 increased to 15,025 takeoffs and landings (+21.1%). However, cargo volume was down 12.4% from November 2021 to 21,452 tonnes.
Details on passenger traffic
Passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe increased to 623,510 travellers in November 2022 (+57.75) compared to the prior-year month. The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in November 2022 rose to 153,592 travellers (+60.6%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 23,455 passengers flying to North America (+87.9%) and 24,548 (+91.0%) to Africa. Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East equalled 60,828 travellers in November 2022 (+99.5%), whereas the number of passengers flying to East Asia climbed to a total of 26,603 (+361.3%) in November 2022.
Passenger traffic registered by the strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG in November 2022 also increased compared to the previous year. Malta Airport reported a rise in passenger volume in November 2022 to 433,621 travellers (+37.2%), amounting to 87.9% of the pre-crisis level of November 2019. Kosice Airport handled 28,220 passengers (+81.5%), 20.3% above the number of passengers it handled before the coronavirus crisis.
